The Fall River Mill Owner's Association believes the mills
that were built to create prosperity during the robust textile era can be rediscovered in the 21st century. Offering advantages
not found in new architecture, the mills of the city are being positioned to seed and grow new enterprise, coming at us in
the years just ahead. In particular, FRMOA is pushing to:
• Mill restoration and renovation: Bring the mills into the 21st century, capitalize on new
technology, tax incentives and mixed-use, live/work communities that thrive
• Solar: Advance the cause of solar energy in the City and with respect
to mills, in particular
•
Wind: Adapt wind technology where possible and suitable
• Hydro and geothermal power: Reawaken the underground water supply that
flows under the City to help power the mills over the decades about to arrive
• Cutting edge: Innovate new products regarding electricity, power, waste,
recycling, parking, lights, windows and other critical aspects of urban life
• Venture forward: Pilot new programs aimed at attracting new, scaleable,
vital businesses to the City
• Legislative:
Develop legislative initiatives at the State level aimed at assisting mills to come back and flourish
• Gateway Cities: Network with mills of the other
more than 20 Gateway Cities in the Commonwealth to help rekindle the economic engine of Southeastern Massachusetts and the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Buying power: Leverage the collective buying power of mills in the acquisition of critical materials such as
boilers, coal, gas, oil, electricity, new technology, insurance and other essentials to the successful operation of mills
• Vision: Provide an essential
visioning capability to the planning of the city that will push for development of the State Pier, a ferry service, the re-establishment
of a local airport, the new train station, and an advanced, inner-city transportation system, among other possibilities

To
create a new association of Fall River mill owners. The actions of this association will include but not be limited to the
following concerns:
• Form professional bonds among the
City’s mill owners based on common interests and purpose— the basis for newfound prosperity consistent with what
is unfolding for the City at this time.
• Share information on architectural retrofit and
restoration; tax credits, technology, strategy, financing, business planning — how to work together to create an historic
national asset in the mills of the City
• Establish the city’s mills as a national
resource and business magnet for high-tech, manufacturing and other kinds of (sustainable) start-ups, emerging and established
companies, using the buildings as examples of renewable energy refits.
•
Contribute to the tenor and pitch of City life by working with City Hall to help create long term prosperity for the City
based on the rich history of mills in Fall River and certain importance to the future of the city
• Help to contribute thought and practice ideas to the National Trust for Historic Preservation that will ultimately
serve all mill owners well in the rebuilding and restructuring of the City of Fall River and beyond
• Establish a website that will allow for such growth and continuity, along with essential marketing tools,
a newsletter, email, systematic meetings and related activities to foster harmony, mutual interest and purpose over the long
haul
• Leave a legacy of reconstruction and renewal among the mills of the
City that will be passed onto the next generation
