ENERGI comes to visit the MOA
Energi Visits MOA
Energi visits MOA

In late December 2011, the MOA was pleased to have representatives of Energi come to Fall River for the purpose of considering and evaluating risk management and insurance solutions by which mills of Fall River may realize significant technological upgrades that would result in the lowering of operations costs over time. After introductions, presentations were made. The MOA outlined our mission and vision, while Energi set forth its own mission, some of which may enable the MOA to innovate new means by which the economic competitiveness of our mills will be increased-- a very exciting prospect. The day ended with a short tour of the city to highlight select mills and the kinds of enterprises that inhabit them. We are hopeful that Energi may prove to be an important resource in the economic equation that is represented by our mills.

What A Day!
The Mill Owners of Fall River gathered to cement the process by which comprehensive data will be gathered for the express purpose of creating new prosperity among mill owners, in the City of Fall River, the wider region, and among other Massachusetts Gateway Cities. Congratulations to President Chris Laudon, Vice President Pat Tod, and all the others whose contributions made this day an exciting one, full of hope and promise.

NEWS! New Video on YouTube
A new promotional video completed for the Preservation Society of Fall River is now posted on YouTube. This will be shown to various constituent groups in the City, and will be a useful tool in the advancement of the organization's mission. Imagine a few new such videos on our wonderful 65 mills! These are in the planning stages.

June Agenda: President Chris Laudon and Chief Operations Officer Pat Tod (both on right, Chris in foreground) address a lengthy list of pressing matters: Defining legal status of the organization, building membership, creating the first-ever in-depth study (database format) of the economic viability of all the mills that currently exist in the City of Fall River, and planning for fall 2010, the first-ever Mill Owner's Ball...wow, so much going on. Stay-tuned!

FRMOA First Ever Mission Brunch: An exciting morning! Mill-owners were well represented. The Mayor gave us his enthusiastic, "Thumbs Up!" The National Historic Trust under the leadership of Wendy Nicholas, offered her upbeat perspective. The Fall River Chamber, and a handful of additional speakers made the morning memorable. The event was held at Co-Chair Pat Tod's mill, a former stable.

Database: FRMOA is working on the creation of a comprehensive database outlining the history and status of each of the 65 mills in the City

Book: FRMOA is negotiating with Spinner Publications to design and produce a book on this history of the City's mills

Membership: FRMOA is working on getting our mission and vision out in an effort to represent a goal of 75% of the City's mill owners by the end of 2010

Leveraged Buying Power: FRMOA is gathering information critical to mill owners who want to participate in purchasing en masse essential utilities and materials necessary to survive and prosper.

Chronicles: FRMOA is currently documenting mills that have been upgraded and revitalized. Look for examplary models in the months just ahead.

Policy and Law: FRMOA will be working with representatives as needed to advance policy and legislative initiatives favorable to the City and the mill owners, "pro-business" undertakings. Currently on the table for discussion:
  • Expanding the Historic Tax District to include more mills
  • Expanding the Arts Overlay District to include more mills
  • Applying for grants of several different kinds to catalyze our mission
  • Dovetailing with the Fall River Energy Enterprise (FREE) to transform this City
A "Knowledge" City:  So as not to miss the next 80-100 years, FRMOA will support and encourage high-value, new business enterprise created to help point the way in a new, globally integrated economy.
